The Progress and the Course of Pulmonary Tuberculosis under Chemotherapy
Chan Sae Lee
Abstract
Summary
1. According to the result of author¢¥s observation made on 200 patients of pulmonary
tuberculosis under chemotherapy for more than 3 years, the type of the progress and
the course of the disease could be devided in 5 groups.
2. Type I shows remarkable and fast improvement with a good expectation of
curement. This group occupied 45.5% of 200 patients and proved to be that it contains
significantly more patients who had acute hemorrhagic onset, who had early regular
treatment, within 6 months after the diagnosis or onset, and who had also adequate bed
rest on the beginning of the treatment.
Type ¥± shows a relapse short after the initial improvement but it was only 3.5% of
all.
Type ¥² is a group of one who makes a gradual improvement, mostly with a
significant rement of pulmonary lesions. It was 24.5% of all.
Type ¥³ was only 7.5% of all and grouped one who showed a gradual progression of
the disease despite of the treatment.
The patients of Type ¥±, ¥², ¥³ and ¥´ were consisted of one who had more gradual
onset of disease and too late begining of the treatment and disregraded bed rest.
3. There was no significant difference detectable between the various regimes of the
chemotherapy on the course of the disease although it was so complex that hard to
evaluate correctly.
4. Since there were total 3,300 pats of pulm. TB recorded at the same clinic during
the same period of this observation and 200 pats repreresent only 6% of the total pats
and further more the number of the pats belonged to type ¥° means only 2.7% of total
pats. and the utmost importance on the improvement of the treatment of the pulmonary
tuberculosis is still an early regular uninterrupted chemotherapy with an adequate bed
rest combined, preferably begin within 6 months after the discovery of tuberculosis and
to continue it long enough, and to achieve this goal, not only the education of the
patient but also the improvement of socioeconomic status to get necessary means and
ways is strongly requested in this country.
